Nordic Star Nurseries announces the official opening of its first nursery in Islington, bringing the best of Nordic pre-school education to the UK. The official opening in December was attended by the Ambassador of Finland, Mr. Jukka Siukosaari and Finnish education experts. The nursery, a modern and spacious 5,000 sq. ft site in central London offering places for a hundred young students, is the first ‘Nordic Star by FinlandWay®’ preschool in the UK, with more sites to open over the coming years.
Nordic Star Islington is the first nursery in the UK to offer Finland’s world-famous and top-ranking education programme and best practices that support children’s wholesome well-being while building academic and life skills necessary for life-long learning.
Designed for children between 3 months to 5 years, Nordic Star Islington follows the proven Finnish curriculum, ethos and play-based learning method while fully compliant with the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Nordic Star educators are trained to deliver this bespoke approach through a detailed daily programme by top education scientists and child development experts at the University of Helsinki. An individual learning plan is tailored for each child, emphasising areas such as analytical thinking and learning skills, forming and expressing opinions, and media multiliteracy, with age-appropriate introductions to present-day topics as varied as coding, renewable energy and mindfulness.
Nordic Star Islington boasts exceptionally spacious and engaging learning areas and modern equipment designed for exploration, physical play and kinetic learning, with separate sleep and dining rooms. True to Nordic roots, the nature connection, outdoor activities, and environmental education form a natural and integral part of the daily routine.
Remaining available spaces are being snapped up and demand continues to be high amongst parents looking for a well-rounded and positive start for their children’s education. Nordic Star is poised to become the leading quality provider of early childhood education in London and surrounding home counties, opening 5-10 more sites, each catering for 50-100 children.
“We are thrilled to bring the Nordic education approach to London,” said Nordic Star’s co-founder and CEO, Alice Shah. “Nordic Star will lead the way in using the latest science of how children learn best in more natural, joyful and stress-free ways. We support our children to become happy, healthy and proactive citizens by building their curiosity and motivation. The crucial early foundations for key academic skills, emotional intelligence and life skills are built into the programme while preserving the fun and the sense of wonder.”
