● Open Door Policy – our team is always happy to chat at drop-off or pick-up, answer questions, and offer reassurance whenever needed
“Children arrive eagerly, separate from their parents and carers with confidence and explore the engaging activities staff have planned for them”. Ofsted 2025.

Government Funding FAQs
We know that understanding government funding can sometimes feel confusing, so we’ve put together this simple guide to explain how it works at Westfield House.
How many funded hours can my child receive?
Government funding provides 15 or 30 hours of childcare per week for eligible families. However, this funding is only available for 38 weeks of the year (term time).
Do you offer stretched funding?
Yes. At Westfield House, we offer funding on a stretched basis across 50 weeks. This helps give your child continuity of care throughout the year, rather than only during term time. When stretched across 50 weeks:
- 15 hours funding = 570 hours per year → around 11.4 hours per week (roughly 1 day per week if starting in September).
- 30 hours funding = 1,140 hours per year → around 22.8 hours per week (roughly 2 days per week if starting in September). Please note: The number of funded days may vary if your child starts in September, January,
or April.
How do I check if I’m eligible?
Parents are responsible for checking their eligibility through HMRC. If eligible, you will be given an eligibility code, which must be:
- Provided to us before your child starts
- Renewed every 3 months
- Valid from the term after your child’s birthday or 9-month eligibility point.
What does the funding cover?
Government funding is designed to cover the childcare hours only. It does not cover:
- Meals
- Snacks and consumables
- Extra activities or additional services.
Are there any additional costs?
Yes. To ensure children receive the very best, we go beyond standard enhanced activities to create truly magical experiences for your child. These include Stay and Play sessions, outings, and—starting from preschool—Forest School, yoga, and Scientots. Alongside this, we provide nutritious meals and high-quality resources. To help cover these, we ask for a small contribution of £11.70 per day
At Westfield House, safeguarding children is our top priority. We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where every child can thrive. Safeguarding is embedded in everything we do. From safer recruitment and training to daily safety checks and secure routines, parents can have confidence that their child’s safety, wellbeing, and happiness are our highest priorities.
Safer Recruitment & Qualified Staff
● All members of our team undergo rigorous safer recruitment processes before joining Westfield House. This includes thorough reference checks, DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, and verification of qualifications. We ensure that every staff member has the skills, experience, and values needed to care for children safely and effectively.
Policies, Procedures & Internal Systems
● We maintain comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures in line with national guidance, and all staff are trained to follow them diligently. Internal systems are in place to monitor children’s wellbeing, track attendance, and ensure any concerns are addressed promptly.
Risk Assessments & Safe Environments
● Our building, garden, and all activity areas are regularly risk-assessed, with daily checks to maintain a safe environment. We balance opportunities for exploration and independence with measures that protect children from harm, ensuring they can play and learn safely.
Drop-Off, Pick-Up & Emergency Procedures
● We have strict drop-off and pick-up procedures to ensure that children are only released to authorized adults. Emergency contacts are kept up to date, and clear procedures are in place so we can respond quickly and effectively in any situation. Healthy Eating
NUTRITION
We are proud to hold a 5-star hygiene rating, with staff fully trained in Food Hygiene and paediatric first aid, and children are supervised while eating to ensure safety and support. Our dedicated on-site chef prepares three fresh, homemade meals and snacks each day, following national early years nutrition guidelines.
We happily cater for all dietary requirements — including allergies, vegetarian, and vegan — and offer a monthly menu full of variety. Fresh drinking water is available throughout the day. Mealtimes are about more than food. Babies are gently introduced to new tastes and textures, while toddlers and older children sit together to share, talk, and learn. With opportunities to cook and bake, children begin to build a lifelong love of healthy food and the benefits it brings.
“Staff provide children with freshly prepared healthy meals and snacks each day. Children follow good hygiene routines and learn about oral health through conversations and planned activities.”
parent testimonials
don't just take our word for it
"Our family has been so moved by Marie and her staffs support and care for our kids at Westfield house. I honestly don’t know how we would have faced the challenges over the last few years without Marie’s endless compassion and care and drive to put the well-being of our children and family before anything else. The staff are all so lovely and we are so sad to not be seeing them every week. Our kids have spoken so fondly about the staff at home and their gentleness and fun has rubbed off on them so much. It’s been a magical time for them which we are really grateful for. "

"Being first time parents, we were sceptical about sending Lilliya to nursery. After visiting 6 nurseries and just not quite feeling content, we visited Westfield House and knew instantly that was the nursery for our little girl. Although it is a nursery, we liked the fact that it was akin to a home setting but large enough for Lilliya to explore, learn and make friends. She seems really happy there and she absolutely loves her keyworker, Emma - that gives us a sense of comfort. All the staff are lovely and we couldn’t be happier with our choice of nursery."
- Lazuna Ullah
"Westfield house is amazing. Both our two children have grown and thrived there. They spend loads of time playing outdoors, which they love. The staff really befriend and care for the children as individuals. We can't imagine them getting a better start to their education. "
