Meal time: self serving
Self-serving meals at preschool help children develop important life skills, foster independence and responsibility, and create a sense of readiness for the structured environment of school.
So, why do we encourage this with the lead up to big school?
Independence: Learning to serve their own meals encourages independence and self-reliance. Children gain confidence in their abilities to perform tasks on their own, which is essential for adjusting to the more structured environment of school.
Fine motor skills: Handling utensils, pouring drinks, and serving food require fine motor skills. Practicing these tasks at preschool helps children develop coordination and dexterity, which are important for activities like writing, drawing, and using classroom materials in school.
Social skills: Self-serving meals can also foster social interaction and cooperation among children. They learn to take turns, share resources, and communicate with peers while navigating the mealtime routine. Healthy eating habits: When children have the opportunity to serve themselves, they can make choices about what and how much to eat. This promotes autonomy and encourages the development of healthy eating habits early on, which is important for overall well-being and concentration in school.

Health and Hygiene
Ensuring health and hygiene in preschoolers going to school is essential for their well-being and readiness.
Teaching them about proper hygiene practices such as hand washing, dental care, and healthy habits like eating nutritious food and getting enough sleep not only keeps them physically healthy but also prepares them for the school environment. These practices help prevent the spread of illnesses, reduce absenteeism, and create a conducive learning environment.
Additionally, promoting good health and hygiene instills lifelong habits that contribute to children’s physical, emotional, and social development, setting them up for success both in
school and beyond.
