Playing, exploring & having fun in nature
We opened our second Forest Kindergarten at Borde Hill, Haywards Heath in May 2021. Set within ‘Cuckoo Corner’ in the grounds of what was the original play area it is a beautiful space, with some amazing shrubs and trees. We have the most enormous sandpit that the children love & we can spend hours there digging holes, searching for treasure, playing on the slide & going off on adventures on the boat!
We have worked hard to develop the site and now have a wonderful willow dome and growing area, in which we have planted lots of veg and we are learning together as we go. To shelter from the wind, rain & snow we have also invested in two large Tentipi Nordic tents – designed to withstand arctic conditions! With log burners installed they give us a lovely cosy space to keep warm and listen to stories.
When children turn 3, we begin to take them on regular visits to Borde Hill Gardens which we are very lucky to have on our doorstep to enjoy! There are regular children’s trails, a fantastic play area and lots of space to explore. Click on this video to find out more about Borde Hill and their plans for the future – you will see some of our Borde Hill Treehoppers & team featured in it.

Families joining us at our Borde Hill site are asked to take out a membership for the gardens themselves so that we can also take the children into the grounds of the gardens and enjoy exploring, following nature trails and playing in the adventure playground. We are fortunate to be able to visit the gardens throughout the year, even when it is normally closed to the public.
See the Borde Hill website for more information and for details of their planned events as they run children’s trails throughout the school holidays and many other family friendly events.

Why choose us?
The majority of our staff are trained (or currently in training to be) Forest School Leaders. As a result woodwork & working with tools is important to us, we like to have campfires for cooking & keeping warm in the colder months & we embrace all the seasons! We have weekly visits from Tiny Tekkers who keep the children active & entertained with football skills. Over the last 2 years we have also formed a partnership with Dimensions, part of Outreach 3way charity in Crawley who support adults with learning disabilities & autism. We have a small group each week to help us with gardening & site maintenance on a Friday, and another group who join us for fund games & activities on a Monday
