Ensure the indoor environment feels comfortable, safe and homely.

Make sure the indoor environment and all the elements within it are clean and safe.

Regularly review how the areas are used by observing the children at play.

Use the highest quality resources.

Create specific areas for different types of play so that children can easily access and distinguish between activities on their own.

Encourage children to find the things they want to play with.

Maria Montessori:

“Adults admire their environment; they can remember it and think about it – but a child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul. He incarnates in himself all in the world about him that his eyes see and his ears hear”.

INDOOR ENVIRONMENT

An enabling environment plays a key role in supporting children’s learning and development across all seven areas of the EYFS, which we deliver.

At The Nurtury our indoor environment provides a varied and safe space in which children can play, explore and learn. Giving children the physical and mental space in which to enable learning in a safe environment which is key to their growth.

We believe that children learn and develop best in caring, supportive environments which respond to their individual needs. Our enabling environment ensures that children grow and develop to be ‘resilient, capable, confident and self-assured’.

Our indoor space has been planned carefully to allow flexibility to accommodate children’s changing interests and needs. A suitable environment for a young baby will be very different from a suitable environment for a four or five year old although some features will be the same.
