Diversity & Inclusion
At Blossoms Day Nursery, we value diversity and are committed to inclusion of all. We welcome children and families from all backgrounds, religions and beliefs and respect individual choices and preferences.
We aim to build strong relationships with families to enable each child to achieve their full potential. Practitioners provide positive role models and help to break down barriers to a child’s learning and participation.
Our Nursery Inclusion Officer provides additional support to children with special educational needs (SEND) and children with English as an additional language. We work in partnership with our families enabling us to offer support and advice to encourage children to reach their full potential. Practitioners are supported in their roles ensuring their practice is fully inclusive for families of all needs and backgrounds.
Food & Healthy Diets
The food we serve at Blossoms Day Nursery is healthy, balanced, nutritious and based on good ‘home’ cooking. We cater for dietary requirements and provide a varied menu with dishes from around the world.
We cater for all dietary requirements
We cater for all dietary requirements, intolerances and allergies and our menus are selected to include daily portions of dairy and multiple portions of fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables. Our menus include dishes from around the world to introduce the children to different tastes and cultures. We have winter and summer 3 weekly rotating menus so the children will taste interesting and varied meals during their time with us.
We hold cooking sessions with the children
We hold cooking sessions with the children and we regularly incorporate traditional foods to coincide with cultural topics, such as Pancake Day, Easter, Diwali, and Christmas, where the children follow recipes and are able to take home what they have created to share with their families. We talk to the children about healthy foods and what benefit they have to their bodies. The children are involved in growing and planting fruit and vegetables in our allotment of which they tend, learning how things grow and change.
Forest School in Rushden
Our forest school leader Sharon Walding is an experienced Level 3 practitioner and Forest School Leader who has been with us for a number of years. Sharon shares her love for the outdoors with our children through weekly sessions at our forest school site. The site supports play, exploration, and supported risk-taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural environment. Learning outdoors inspires a deep and meaningful connection to nature where children can be free and at one with the world around them.
Healthy body, Healthy mind & Healthy world
Our concept of healthy body, healthy mind and healthy world, encapsulates our approach to learning. Here at Blossoms nursery we believe that it is imperative to provide opportunities for children to learn about themselves, others and the world around them only then will they discover the difference that they can make.
We acknowledge the positive impact outdoors has on our mental health and well being and are proud to offer an environment which caters for all children. All of our children access the outdoors every day through a range of outdoor spaces discovering the awe and wonder of the weather and the natural world, from potion making, den building, mud pies, crates becoming trains, planes, castles and cars, their imagination is only the beginning. We encourage risky play, empowering them to become independent learners.
Our allotment provides children with the understanding that with care and patience we can enjoy the fruits of our labour when we harvest our fruits and vegetables from seed, providing a fantastic stimulus for conversation around healthy eating.
Since March 2018 we have been breathing young life into our local care home each week. These intergenerational encounters have sparked great friendships and inspire learning and a greater understanding of the world. During the visits children engage in interactive learning such as cooking, board games, stories, singing, building and drawing – but this is superficial to the learning and experiences that lie beneath the life skills these children are learning, such as empathy for others, self-confidence, communication in different forms and interdependence.
At Blossoms Day Nursery we understand our impact on the world around us and we have considerably reduced our use of plastic. Money that was previously spent on plastic craft resources such as glitter and sequins is now used to sponsor a dolphin called Berry. The children learn about the impact plastic has on sealife and the environment.
