Purpose-built
The new purpose-built nursery has been designed with the needs of children first - putting them at the heart of everything we do.
Since 1996
Alpha Kindergarten Stanground is the new nursery from the team behind one of Peterborough's longest running nurseries.
Open 8am to 6pm
We care for children from 6 weeks until it's time to go to school. We are open during the school holidays and are closed only on bank holidays and the week of Christmas.
Exceptional Nursery in Stanground
Parents have been choosing Alpha Kindergarten for over 25 years because of our exceptional experience of caring for children.
The first five years of your child’s life will see them develop more quickly than at any other time. So we know how important it is that we work together to help your child progress at nursery and at home to reach their full potential. They will learn and play with their friends as they become happy, social and confident learners who are ready for school.
WHY PARENTS LOVE OUR NURSERY
Our ethos is about building strong relationships with families as we work with you to create a shared approach to your child's learning.
Each day, you can view photographs and observations of your children as they play and learn both in the nursery and using the secure Famly app on your computer or phone.
Located on Whittlesey Road, our nursery is perfect for parents en route to Peterborough City Centre and provides convenient childcare for parents in Cardea and Stanground and Whittlesey.
We have the largest car park of any nursery in Peterborough, so that you won't be struggling to find a parking space during drop-off and pick-up times.
Our in-house cook makes homemade food on site, using fresh and local ingredients where possible. All our menus are designed with nutrition and health in mind.
Your child is given the opportunity to try new and delicious foods with their friends as they learn about making healthy choices.
Alpha Kindergarten is one of the longest running nursery groups in Peterborough. We have over 25 years of experience caring for children and helping to give them the best start in life.
Each day, you will drop your child off knowing that they are in the hands of qualified professionals. We insist that all of our staff are qualified childcare specialists and hold additional qualifications such as paediatric first aid, child behaviour and child emotional development.
Peterborough's newest nursery, our setting has been designed with the needs of children first. Every step of the way, it is being built to keep them safe and ensure that we maximise their chances to learn and play.
Our rooms are light and spacious, giving them space to learn and play with their friends. Each room has direct access to a child-friendly bathroom and easy access to our stunning outdoor play area.
We know that your child is unique and will have their own interests, strengths and weaknesses. We don't believe that there is one-size-fits-all approach to childcare - instead, our staff will adapt based on your child and their development.
So your child will receive individual attention with personalised development plans as they start to grasp key skills through play with activities personalised around them. Working with parents, we will ensure that your child's individual needs are identified and met to provide the very best care.

Safety and Security
Keeping your child safe is our number one priority and we work hard to provide you with peace of mind every single day.
We recognise how important it is that you feel comfortable leaving your child in a secure environment. We have strong arrangements for safeguarding and our team receive intensive training to understand the responsibilities of caring for your child.
Our staff work together to ensure that your child can learn, play and grow in a safe way. We require all our team to have qualifications in safeguarding, food hygiene and paediatric first-aid and we run frequent ‘top up’ training sessions. As your would expect, all our staff have enhanced DBS checks carried out on them as standard - this includes ancillary staff like our admin support and handyman.
We go beyond the minimum legal requirements for staff training, to ensure that everyone on site has responsibility for safety. To supplement our team's experience, every member of staff undergoes continuous training so that they are always up to date on the latest best practice in childcare and safety.
Throughout the day, our team work to identify and reduce hazards in the nursery. Staff do continuous checks of toys and equipment both indoors and outdoors. Our large outdoor play areas are safe and secure, with staff always supervising children.
We benefit from an in-house handyman, who is continually ensuring that all equipment is in top working order.
Our nursery is purpose-built, so it has been designed with child safety in mind. This includes secure entrances, child-friendly fittings and furnishings and spaces that allow staff to see children at all times.
Entrance to the nursery is via our front door, which remains secure throughout the day. Only our staff can provide access to families and visitors and we build strong relationships with parents so that we know who should be picking up your child.
If you would like someone unknown to us to collect your child, we have a triple check system in place. You will need to notify us in advance, they will need to show ID and they will need to provide your individual password.
We welcome an open and honest relationship with parents. Parents are welcome to view our policies and we build strong relationships with families. We encourage you to discuss any concerns that you might have with the management team.

Nutrition and Menus
Good nutrition will give your child the best possible start in life.
Our three-weekly menus are changed seasonally so that your child is benefiting from a variety of fresh, delicious produce. Meal plans are prepared using the Eat Better, Do Better guidance to ensure that each meal supports your child’s development. Freshly cooked on-site by our own cook, all of our delicious meals use locally sourced produce where possible, without any salt, limiting sugar and incorporating at least five servings of fruit and vegetables each day.
We know how important the right food is for your child's health and development and we provide ourselves on the quality of our meals. All our meals are designed with nutrition in mind and we follow the Government's latest recommendations on diet in early years.
All our staff are trained in food hygiene and have experience in supporting children at meal times. Whilst supporting your child’s independence, they will encourage them to try new things and understand the benefit of making healthy options.
Milk and healthy snacks are served mid-morning and mid-afternoon. To support their independence, children over 2 are able to select when they would like their snack. Snacks vary each day and include options like vegetable sticks, fruit or rice cakes.
We are always happy to cater for your child's dietary requirements. A vegetarian alternative is prepared each day alongside the main meal.
All of our staff follow our robust allergens policy and we work closely with parents to ensure that we are aware of your child's intolerances.
For younger children, we will always follow your home feeding routine and will cooperate with you fully during the weaning process when you feel your child is ready.
Babies moving onto solids are offered foods such as pureed vegetables and are gradually introduced to other flavours. They will eventually move onto modified versions of the main meal eaten by the older children that day.
We know that nursery aged children are much more likely to try different foods and this will change very quckly as they grow up. Treating meal times as a social occasion, children are more willing to try new foods and parents are often amazed at what their 'fussy eaters' will eat in the company of their peers.
Meal times are also an opportunity to develop your child's independence. Older children help to set the table and serve themselves, while supported and encouraged by staff.
