On Tuesday 6th June 2023 we had our annual visit from Wellgate Community Farm. They brought with them a variety of animals including Chickens, goats, sheep, guinea pigs and rabbits. The farm staff were really nice and informative and explained to each group of children how to hold their hands out to feed the animals and how the keep their hands flat when stroking them. They also explained the importance of hand washing after handling animals and made sure the children knew not to touch their mouths and faces. All the children were really good and seemed to enjoy the whole experience. They were allowed to hold the guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens on their laps, independently with supervision from either a farmer or staff member. They were also allowed in the pen with the sheep and goats either in small groups or on their own to stroke them and feed them. In with the two adult goats was a kid which was only a few months old and all the children enjoyed meeting him too. When the children returned to their rooms they had discussions about what they had seen and learnt. One of the children then chose to draw a picture of the goats which we gave to the farmers as part of a thank you. We are already looking forward them coming back again next year!
