At Creative Explorers, transitions are a crucial part of a child’s growth. Whether moving from one room to another or to a new site like our Crouch End Preschool, we aim to make these changes smooth and supportive.
How Transitions Work at Creative Explorers
Recognising Readiness
Transitions start when we, both staff and parents, observe that a child is developmentally (emotionally, physically and mentally) ready. We are keen to make sure the change is something both staff and parents see as the right step for each child.
Planning the Transition
Once readiness is confirmed, we plan a gradual transition process, which includes several steps. This ensures the child feels secure and comfortable every step of the way.
Settling-In Sessions
During the settling-in phase, the room leader will arrange several visits to the new room where your child will explore the new space with some of their classmates. We typically move small groups of 2-4 children at a time, ensuring they have familiar faces and friends with them, which further eases the transition.
These sessions also help the child build a relationship with their new key worker and meet the new team.
Involving Parents
Before the move, we will send a letter to parents with detailed information about the new room and setting. If your child is transitioning between rooms at the same site, we encourage parents to meet the staff from the new room during pick-up time. Our goal is to support you throughout this process and ensure a smooth transition for your child.
Supporting at Home
Parents can further support their child’s transition by talking about the new room or site, visiting the new location together, and reinforcing positive aspects of the change.
Beginning the New Adventure
Once settled, the child will officially start in their new room, feeling confident and familiar with their surroundings.
Conclusion
At Creative Explorers, our transition process is child-centered, gradual, and collaborative. We ensure children and their families feel supported and confident as they embark on new adventures. Transitions are exciting opportunities for growth, discovery, and embodying our values of being inquisitive, expressive, compassionate, and resilient.
